NOVEMBER CRAFT MARKET // LEARN TO KNIT

NOVEMBER CRAFT MARKET, originally uploaded by lisamargreet.

The East London Craft Guerrilla will be having their next craft market on Saturday 22nd November 2008 1pm-6pm at the Wanstead United Reform Church.

I’ll be running a free “Learn to knit” session between 2.30-3.30pm as well as selling my fascinators and a new range of boy pants (not just for boys)! Bring your own needles and yarn or I’ll have some you can buy on the day. I’ll be teaching the long-tail (or thumbs) cast-on method, knit and purl stitches, and how to cast off. You can also buy a kit for knitting your own face cloth which I can help you to start making. You might as well get something useful out of your sample squares of knitting – we all get dirty faces, after all! Email me for more info or just turn up. There’s even somewhere to buy a cup of tea and a slice of cake to have while you are knitting. 🙂

If your fingers are itching to get going and you just can’t wait to start, here are my favourite links to knitting resources on the net:

Knittinghelp.com: Excellent videos on every aspect of learning to knit. Indispensable, bookmark now!

Vogueknitting.com: Free patterns, How-to’s including beginner basics knitting 101 and a great stitch library.

knitrowan.com: The website from Rowan yarn, includes how-to’s, free patterns and a forum.

craftleftovers.com: Excellent blog, free patterns and very useful tutorials on all things crafty.

Mochimochiland.com: Really cute amigurumi patterns created by Anna Hrachovec, free patterns, tutorial and shop. I featured her knitted amigurumi heart pattern in the first kit I created for the East London Craft Guerrilla craft night Hearts for the Heartless, in September 2008.

ravelry.com: a knitting community on the web, you have to wait to sign up but it’s worth it. You get forums with all the help, advice and procrastination you could need, free patterns as well as ones you can buy, an online notebook for storing all details of your projects, a place to record your yarn stash and much more.

knitty.com: Free patterns and how-to’s. A gem of a site featuring loads of cool, new designers.

Don’t worry if you can’t make the learn to knit session on Saturday, I’ll be running another one at the East London Craft Guerrilla Craft Night on Wednesday 26th November between 8.30-9.30pm at The Castle pub in Walthamstow. More details to follow shortly.
